Interesting facts about Edward de Vere, better known as William Shakespeare 1550 - 1604.

William Sheksshir is a unique person born on 12 April 1550 in Stratford-upon-Avon and died there in 1616.

The first biography of Shakespeare is written in 1709.


We know many things about Edward de Vere: led a very adventurous life and events of his life are reflected in the plays. Born in 1550, the son and heir of the Earl of Oxford XVI, very rich and high-ranking aristocrat. Although written in English, Shakespeare in the full sense of the word is an international writer. Although English is not a universal language, it is closer to this concept than anyone else. Moreover, Shakespeare's plays have been translated everywhere in the world and be read and presented in very many countries.

Most evidence suggests that Shakespeare was a pseudonym used by Edward de Vere, XVII Earl of Oxford and William Shakespeare (Shaxpere, Shakspeyr, Shagspere or Shaxbere) is the family name - written differently, but almost always is not the first syllable.

Father of William Shakespeare - John de Vere, once very wealthy man, falls into a difficult situation and little William was raised in poverty. However, he studied at Stratford classical school, where he studied Latin and classical literature.

When William was eighteen years from him is pregnant young woman named Ann Hathaway.

No information about his activities and whereabouts during many years, but in early 1590 it was already in London as a member of the acting troupe. William was a very good actor, but rather is given to writing plays and poems.

In 1598 he has been lauded as the greatest of all English writers, living or dead. William remained in London about twenty years, during which time he wrote thirty-six plays, 154 sonnets and several poems. After several years already wealthy and able to buy in 1597 expensive house in Stratford.

Twenty-one years, De Ver married Anne Cecil, daughter of his guardian. Since both are grown together and she is almost a sister, the marriage seems quite unusual.

Then as De Ver returns to his wife, two have five children. Then Anne, only thirty-two, died quickly dropping. Four years later De Ver married again and his second wife survives him.
